Nochikan Karate International
Nochikan Karate International is founded to provide professional karate training to everybody regardless of age or gender. We train students to attain fitness at both physical and mental levels. You may be either someone who envisages a physically fit body or trains for Karate as a career choice. Whatever your vision is, we mould our karate training classes to suit your requirement and help achieve the desired.
Our founder, Dr K. Nagulanathan, was intrigued with Karate at 15 years of age and started Karate classes under the experienced wing of Sensei Boney Robert, the founder of the Sri Lanka Karate-Do Federation. Years of persistence taught him the gravity of karate training, and he realised that Karate is much more than physical fitness, defensive techniques, and counterattacks.
The realisation urged him to lay bricks to a Karate training institute that imparts the essence of Karate to everybody and makes them physically and mentally strong. On the invitation of Sensei B. Premkumar, a Karate instructor in Kerala since 1978, Dr Nagulanathan visited India in 1981 and decided to set up Nochikan Karate International to help everybody attain fitness at all levels. Nochikan is a derivation from 'Kilinochchi', his birthplace in Sri Lanka.
Today Nochikan Karate International institute functions with several branches around the world. We have spread our wings to Srilanka, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Austria, Canada and multiple other prominent countries. With our highly qualified instructors and thousands of students reaching their fitness goals, we aim to reach more people and impart the goodness of Karate training classes.
Nochikan Karate International follows the world-famous Shotokan style of karate. Our Karate Classes focus on teaching our students the fundamentals of this traditional martial art through our Kihon, Kata, and Kumite training programs.
Kihon is the foundation of Shotokan Karate, where basic techniques are practiced, including stances, blocks, punches, kicks, various displacements, and combinations. Through our Kihon training program, students will learn to develop their strength, flexibility, and speed, as well as their accuracy and precision in executing each technique in our karate center.
Kata is another essential element of Shotokan Karate. It involves a pre-arranged sequence of karate moves, organized into a fight against imaginary opponents. In this program, students will learn to coordinate their breathing and movements as they perform various kicks, punches, sweeps, strikes, and blocks. Our dojo teaches a range of Shotokan style kata names, including Heian Shodan, Heian Nidan, Heian Sandan, Heian Yondan, Heian Godan, Bassai Dai, Jion, Enpi, Kanku Dai, Hangetsu, Jitte, Gankaku, Tekki Shodan, Tekki Nidan, Tekki Sandan, Nijūshiho, Chinte, Sōchin, Meikyō/Rōhai, Unsu, Bassai Shō, Kankū Shō, Wankan, Gojūshiho Shō, Gojūshiho Dai, and Ji’in.
Our Kumite program focuses on applying Kihon and Kata to real opponents. Kumite, or sparring, is where students get to put their skills to the test by engaging in a controlled environment with their fellow students. In this program, students will learn basic, intermediate, and advanced sparring techniques and the rules of engagement.
